Heroic beat BIG to secure IEM Rio Major spot

BIG drop down to the 2-2 pool for a final chance at qualifying for Rio.

HEROIC defeated BIG in a two-map affair, winning Mirage (16-11) and Inferno (16-12). With the win, the Danes confirm their Major spot as the third team from Group B. Their Swiss System run included wins over SAW and Sangal, alongside a loss against Outsiders, before clinching their spot against the Germans. The Danes are now set to fight for a Legends Stage spot on Sunday in the third-place decider, where one of the 3-1 teams will qualify as Legends.

It was Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund who was the best performer in the series, with the 20-year-old rifler putting up 51 kills while averaging a 1.35 rating and 95.4 ADR.

Heroic traversed the Swiss System with a 3-1 record

BIG took the lead on their map pick with a pistol-round win, but otherwise struggled on the offensive side. HEROIC struck back as soon as their economy allowed it, the Danes running away to a 7-4 lead with the help of Rasmus "⁠sjuush⁠" Beck's 1vs3 clutch. The German side got two more rounds with contact plays on the A site, going into the interval behind by three.

René "⁠TeSeS⁠" Madsen's quad-kill gave his team the second pistol round, which they converted into a massive 15-6 lead. BIG were able to make it interesting near the end, however, putting together a five-round streak before eventually losing 11-16.

BIG started their CT side on Inferno in strong fashion, racing to a 3-0 start. In the next round, Johannes "⁠tabseN⁠" Wodarz finished off a successful retake on A, only to go looking for a dropped AWP and run out of time for the defuse to let HEROIC back into the game. The Danes took the gift with open hands, tying up the scores and running away to a 9-6 lead at halftime.

BIG got their momentum back at the start of the second half, as they got five rounds in a row to retake the lead, 11-9. After that, it was one-way traffic for HEROIC, who won seven out of the next eight rounds to close out the map 16-12 and lock themselves in for the IEM Rio Major.
